Hobby Art Classes for Adults

Finding good online art classes can feel overwhelming with so many options out there. The good news is, there are some excellent (and affordable) places to learn and grow your skills without breaking the bank. Today I’m sharing a few of my favourite resources that can help you explore new techniques, gain confidence, and carve out time for creativity.

This post contains affiliate links, which means I may receive a small commission if you make a purchase through my links. There’s no extra cost for you, and it helps support the work I do—so thank you!

Start with Free Options

One of the best places to begin is YouTube. There’s an endless supply of tutorials, ranging from beginner lessons to more advanced painting techniques. My own YouTube channel is focused on acrylic painting, where I share tutorials, tips, and creative projects. Subscribing is a great way to stay inspired and get regular ideas for your own painting practice.

If you’re especially interested in acrylics, I’ve also created a free 12-page guide with 10 practical tips for improving your painting skills quickly. It includes links to recommended tutorials so you’ll know exactly where to start.

Explore Membership-Based Learning

Once you’re ready to go a little deeper, I recommend checking out the Craft and Create Club by HobbyScool. This online membership is just $7/month and gives you access to a wide variety of art and craft workshops led by different guest experts.

Each month you can:

  • Learn a new craft or art skill

  • Watch high-quality video tutorials at your own pace

  • Access clear supply lists so you know exactly what to buy

  • Enjoy a growing library of past workshops (valued at over $180)

If you decide to join for a year, there are bonus resources included—like a Craft Projects Planner and extra workshop collections worth $63.

I’ve personally contributed to this membership with my acrylic painting tutorial featuring a fall floral crown, and it’s been wonderful to see the range of creative projects offered inside the club.

The monthly membership is always changing and being updated there are new hobby art workshops that are being added monthly so you can constantly gain new skills and learn different creative techniques that you can apply. There's also lots of different projects that you can complete like my cow painting workshop, that's included in the membership pictured at the top of the page!

Why Try an Online Membership?

At $7/month, it’s a small but worthwhile investment that encourages you to carve out creative time for yourself. The low cost makes it easy to try without pressure, and you can cancel at any time if it’s not the right fit.

Committing to the annual plan is perfect if you know you’ll use the resources regularly and want the bonus content.

It’s a great way to stay motivated, try something new, and keep developing your skills without needing to hunt down lessons on your own.

Online art classes can be an amazing way to grow as an artist, especially when they fit your schedule and budget. Whether you start with free tutorials on YouTube or decide to invest in a membership like the Craft and Create Club, the key is simply showing up for yourself and giving your creativity room to grow.

Make some time for yourself this year and explore the craft and create club membership. It's a great chance for you to commit to trying a new craft project or learning a new creative skill on your own time. You can make 30 minutes each week and you'll be able to have some self-care built into a weekly routine for yourself think about how great you will feel this year, knowing that you have some personal me time and also time for a creative expression, while learning new skills and exploring your creativity as a crafter.
