Why Celebrate Fall/Halloween?
After back to school, celebrating fall or Halloween is sort of the first main celebration in your classroom so it's good to give some extra attention and energy to because the kids who really look forward to Halloween.
They love trick-or-treating, dressing up, getting candy and it's fun for them to incorporate some of this into their lessons, and their daily routines in the classroom.
I created this easy kids Halloween pumpkin painting tutorial on my acrylic painting YouTube channel. You can watch it by clicking on the video below. This is a fun pumpkin painting activity you can do with your kids or your students this Halloween.
My Take on Giving Students Candy
I honestly try not to give students candy or any type of food. Students can have so many allergies and especially the students with allergies tend to feel left out when they can't have anything.
Some parents also don't want their child to have a lot of sugar which is totally fair so I respect us by not giving my students candy especially for Halloween.
Also, you will find come November 1 that their lunch boxes are jam packed with candy. They don't need any candy from their teachers. They are getting plenty of candy trick-or-treating or from their family and friends.
Instead, I tend to give students a Halloween themed pencil, or an eraser. This is still something that they appreciate but it's also a useful practical gift that they can use in the classroom. I also like printing off my fall and Halloween symmetry worksheets and leaving bees on their desk when they enter the classroom. This way, they can work on the symmetry drawing worksheets at the start of the day as a bell ringer activity before the school announcement starts.

- Display seasonal art—completed pages make adorable bulletin boards or learning portfolios.
- Use social time: invite families to a “Fall Gallery Walk” where kids showcase their creations and talk through the symmetry process.
- Integrate numeracy: while drawing, count grid lines, discuss halves, or integrate coordinates (for older students).
