Symmetry Line Drawing

How I Used Symmetry Line Drawing with my Class

I printed off two versions of my symmetry, line drawing for Halloween and a pumpkin picture, as well as a skull picture for students to choose which work sheet they wanted to complete. Then I explained, we would do a drawing contest, similar to a colouring contest, where I would be looking for neatness as well as accuracy in their symmetry line drawing.

After we were done, students would then vote for their favourite pumpkin, drawing, as well as their favourite skull drawing and I would give the winners a Halloween themed eraser as their prize.

This was a fun way to incentivize students and also get students to use their best drawing skills to complete these symmetry line drawings.

Here are their results below!

Why It Works for Middle School Classrooms

Middle schoolers love hands-on activities that feel purposeful but also give them room to be creative. This symmetry drawing project ticks all the boxes:

No Prep for You

Simply print the pages and go. The resource includes half-drawn Halloween and fall-themed images—like pumpkins, haunted houses, bats, and more—that students complete by drawing the symmetrical side. No need to prep paints, gather materials, or explain complicated instructions.

Perfect for Sub Plans

Substitute teachers don’t always have an art background, and this resource makes it easy for any sub to lead a calm, structured lesson. The directions are clear, the task is self-contained, and students stay quietly focused while practicing valuable skills.

 Ideal for Early Finishers

Tired of hearing “I’m done!” while others still need time? Keep early finishers engaged with a meaningful drawing task that reinforces math and art connections through line symmetry. These drawing worksheets make students slow down, observe closely, and think critically—while enjoying a seasonal theme.

Celebrates Halloween in a Creative Way

This isn’t just a colouring sheet. Students will practice observation, spatial awareness, and fine motor control—all wrapped in a festive Halloween package. It’s a great way to bring some holiday spirit into your classroom without sacrificing instructional time.
