Sunset Clouds Painting Easy Art Lesson

Supplies Needed:
-Canvas or canvas board
-Cup of water
-Palette
-Cloth rag
-Acrylic Paint - cadmium red, mars black, titanium white, cadmium yellow, cobalt blue
-flat one inch brush
-round detail brush
-round #6 brush

Steps For Sunset Clouds Painting Easy Art Lesson
Step 1:
Start by painting the whole canvas a light yellow by mixing cadmium yellow and titanium white together. This will be the base coat of the sky. You can paint horizontally in long strokes, applying two coats of paint.
Step 2:
Begin painting the clouds using your flat one inch brush and mixing cobalt blue with titanium white. You can do short little horizontal strokes on the top third of the canvas. You can also mix in some pink strokes by mixing cadmium red with titanium white together. You can add the same blue and pink strokes in the bottom part of the canvas to act as the sky reflected.
Step 3:
You can then add some highlights of even lighter blue and pinks at the top portion of your clouds as highlights and reflect those same pale colours in the water on your painting.
Then you can mix mars black to your pinks and blues of the clouds to act as the shadows of the clouds on the underneath portion of the clouds in the sky. The same dark pinks and blues then reflected in the bottom portion of the canvas on the water.
Step 4:
Next, you can paint the horizon line in the middle of the canvas using mars black and your round number 6 brush. You can paint a couple of horizontal lines for the and then begin painting thin vertical lines as you trees. Remember to make the trees look different and avoid them from looking too “perfect” or the same as one another.
Step 5:
You can then reflect some of the horizon and trees in the water by adding some marks with the black paint.
