Fun Ways to Dye Easter Eggs - Easter Art IdeaS
Classic Food Colouring Dye
Materials:
White eggs (hard-boiled or blown)
Food colouring
White vinegar
Cups or bowls
Spoons
Water
Instructions:
In each cup, mix 1/2 cup hot water, 1 tsp vinegar, and 10–20 drops of food colouring.
Submerge eggs in dye for 5–10 minutes.
Remove with a spoon and let dry on a rack or paper towel.
2. Shaving Cream Swirl Eggs (Marble Effect)
Materials:
White eggs
Shaving cream (not gel) (can also use whipped cream/Cool Whip as an edible alternative for younger children)
Food colouring
Tray or plate
Toothpick or skewer
Gloves (optional)
Instructions:
Spread shaving cream in a shallow tray.
Drop food colouring randomly over the surface.
Swirl with a toothpick for a marbled look.
Roll eggs gently through the cream.
Let sit 10 minutes, then wipe clean.
3. Silk Tie Dyed Eggs (Transfer Print)
Materials:
100% silk ties or scarves (cut into squares)
White eggs (raw or blown)
White cloth or old pillowcase (cut into squares)
Twist ties or rubber bands
Vinegar
Pot and water
Instructions:
Wrap egg tightly in the patterned silk (pattern touching egg).
Cover again with the white cloth.
Secure both layers with a twist tie or band.
Boil eggs in water with 3 tbsp vinegar for 20–25 minutes.
Cool and unwrap to reveal transferred design.
4. Natural Dyes (from Kitchen Scraps)
Materials:
Eggs
White vinegar
Natural ingredients (e.g., red cabbage, onion skins, turmeric, beets, spinach)
Pot
Water
Strainer
Instructions:
Simmer your dye ingredients in 2 cups water for 30–40 mins.
Red cabbage = blue
Yellow onion skins = orange
Turmeric = yellow
Strain and cool the dye liquid.
Add 1 tbsp vinegar per cup of dye.
Soak boiled eggs in dye for several hours or overnight.
5. Rice Shake Dyed Eggs
Materials:
White eggs
Dry uncooked rice
Food colouring
Sealable containers or plastic bags
Instructions:
Put 1/2 cup rice in a container.
Add several drops of food colouring and stir to coat.
Drop an egg in and shake gently.
Let dry for a speckled, textured effect.
6. Crayon Resist Dyeing
Materials:
Hard-boiled white eggs
White crayons or wax crayons
Food colouring or dye bath
Cups
Vinegar
Water
Instructions:
Draw on eggs with crayon—designs will resist dye.
Dip eggs in dye solution (as in Method 1).
Let dry, and the crayon drawing will remain white or stand out.
7. Sticker Resist Dyeing
Materials:
Eggs
